Can my child play up one level higher than their age?
The decision to play up should be based on the player's advanced skill level and not on playing with friends or schoolmates. There are a few ISC policies that you need to be aware of as you request to have child play up:
- Player play ups are placed on teams after all players of that age group are placed on teams. If all teams are full the player will be placed in their own age group.
- Player play ups are not guaranteed to be placed on a team in their geographic area. They are placed on teams based only on teams that need players.
- The ISC strongly recommends that players play in their age appropriate level. Very few players actually benefit from playing up one level.
If you still wish to have your son play up, letters of recommendation from two coaches (preferably from soccer coaches, although PE work well, also) is required. The coaches must agree that the player is advanced both from a skill and social level to play up one age level. The coaches can send e-mail letters directly (no forwarded e-mails from parents) to the Club Administrator. Please cc on that e-mail the VP Team Formation (see the Board section for contact information) for the age level so they can follow it through the system. They can be sent by regular mail to:
Issaquah Soccer Club
P.O. Box 501
Issaquah, WA 98027
If you'd like you can review the full ISC Team Formation Policy in the By Laws & Policies section of this Web site. Item #13 of the ISC Team Formation Policy specifically addresses this issue. If the player has played up in past years with ISC then you may request that during registration. For all new requests please read the policy carefully and follow the instructions.
